Treating eczema naturally can be done at home. If you have observed symptoms of this skin disease, you should know how to treat it right away. The Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine reported in 2009 that about 5,773,700 people in England have been diagnosed with eczema at some point in their lives. That’s about one in every nine people suffering from this disease. Skin areas affected by eczema can be dry and itchy. It can swell and appear red. It can be flaky and crusty. It may even crack and bleed. Scratching this itchy rash may make it worse and make the rash larger. Eczema, in Greek, literally means “to boil over.” No one has discovered a cure to eczema yet. The treatment available focuses on lessening the inflammation and reducing the itch. At home, the remedy for your skin problem is possible. Here are some suggestions on treating eczema naturally:

Shower and Bath Treatments

Use hot water when taking a bath, but make sure it’s not too hot. To remove the dead skin, use a soft brush and gently scrub the affected area. To stop the itch, apply a natural colloidal oatmeal lotion on the area after taking a bath. Better yet, try an oatmeal bath. Add one to two cups of oatmeal to your lukewarm bath; add more if you feel itchier. Oatmeal calms inflamed skin and soothes dry skin.

Diet to Help Treating Eczema Naturally

Go on an elimination diet. There are some food that contributes to your rashes and itch. Find out what those are. Eat eggs for a week and see what happens to your eczema. On the following week, don’t eat eggs and still monitor your skin. If your rashes worsen, the eggs might be worsening your eczema. You should avoid eating eggs or try not to eat them at all. You have eliminated that food in your diet. You have one down. You can then move on to other food like wheat, shellfish, dairy products such as cheese and ice cream, peanuts and other food that might be contributing to your eczema.

Stress and Eczema

We don’t like stress, neither does your skin. What gives you stress? Find out so you can do something about it. What relaxes you? Do these activities. Classical music can help you be more relaxed. Listen to good music. Go for a walk listenting to this kind of music. Make some time for yourself and relax so you can also have better skin.

Clothes That Help Eczema

Be cautious about the clothes you wear. Cotton fabric works best for your skin. So get cotton pajamas and cotton bedding. You may want to wear gloves or socks at night so you won’t be scratching these areas for the whole night.

Other Tips to Treating Eczema Naturally

Coconut oil will keep the skin with eczema soft. Mashed papaya seeds will prevent itchiness on the skin when applied on the area. Carrot and muskmelon can also treat eczema. When you have inflamed skin due to eczema, dab some witch hazel on the affected area. One teaspoon of camphor and one teaspoon of sandalwood equals a good paste against eczema. Spearmint leaf juice when applied can also reduce eczema. Nutmeg with a few drops of water rubbed on a smooth stone will become a paste that can also fight eczema.

Stop a long-time skin problem. The solutions can be done at home by treating eczema naturally.

Heartburn specifically affects the esophagus and the stomach. The esophagus is a tube that delivers food into the stomach. It has a valve that opens and closes, allowing food into the stomach, while keeping it down during digestion. This valve can become overwhelmed by too much food or too much acid. This condition causes stomach acids to reflux or spill back up through the valve onto the esophagus, causing discomfort within the center of the chest.

Is There a Cure for Heartburn?

Well…yes and no. Yes, because it can be treated and relieved effectively, but also no, because researchers cannot find a root cause of heartburn and it can re-appear at any time. Heartburn treatments can range from medications, lifestyle changes and even stress management. Depending on the severity of your condition, heartburn can be curbed with as little as only a few behavioral modifications such as quitting smoking and eating better. If those options don’t work for you, you can try powerful heartburn medication treatments. (Under a physician’s supervision of course.)

Heartburn Medications vary in how they defend the body. With serious, recurring heartburn, a physician may recommend your medications to include histamine antagonists that suppress acid secretions triggered by histamine and gastrin. Your doctor might also prescribe you a proton pump inhibitor. The pump inhibitor is a newer compound designed to block the last step in acid production. Prokinetic agents make up another group that, unlike the first two, does not block or suppress acid production, but instead aims to increase the pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter, helping to push food through faster.

Is there a Heartburn Treatment?

In many cases, minor lifestyle changes can provide you with a great deal of relief from heartburn related symptoms. We mentioned some of these lifestyle changes earlier in the article, but here are a few more:

- Change your diet to reflect healthier eating habits

- Quit smoking

- Sit up after meals

- Incorporate exercise into your daily routine

- Specialized pillows

Exercise is highly effective in relieving heartburn symptoms because it aids in speeding digestion and stifles one of the peskiest acid reflux culprits–being overweight. Also be sure to check out specialized pillows. These are pillows shaped into wedges that elevate your head higher than your stomach so acid stays where it should while you sleep.

Another popular heartburn treatment is natural herbal remedies found in health food stores. These herbal remedies consist of all-natural ingredients that relieve heartburn symptoms and tend to be milder than medical treatments. Prescription medications are the most aggressive heartburn treatments and are designed to provide relief for those who suffer from serious, chronic heartburn or acid reflux disease.

You may have to try more than one acid reflux or heartburn treatment in order to find one that’s effective for you. Remember to consult your physician on any medical concern, and always stay educated and proactive when it comes to your health.

Dementia is a disorder associated with brain, which causes loss of mental ability and cognitive functions. It affects an ability of thinking, memory, decision-making, concentration, verbal communication, memory and problem solving. Dementia results from damage in parts of the brain or death of brain cells that are associated with thought process. These changes in the brain may be due to certain diseases or traumatic brain injury. Dementia may also cause behavioral and personality changes, depending on the affected area of the brain. Alzheimer’s disease, one of the forms of dementia, is a degenerative disorder. Vascular dementia is a non-degenerative type disease. Dementia is considered as a normal part of aging and more commonly found in the elderly people. Let’s take an overview of dementia and know about the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of dementia.

Types of Dementia

Dementia is classified into various types on the basis of which part of the brain is affected and the particular features of the disorder. The major types of dementia are cortical dementia, subcortical dementia, progressive dementia, primary dementia and secondary dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia. It is considered as cortical, progressive dementia. Vascular dementia results from brain damage due to cerebrovascular or cardiovascular problems. Some other forms of dementia are Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, HIV-associated dementia, Huntington’s disease, dementia pugilistica, corticobasal degeneration and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

Causes of Dementia

Dementia is due to various causes such as different diseases and infections, head injuries, stroke, certain drugs and nutritional deficiencies. All types of dementia result from dysfunction in the brain tissue or cerebral cortex. Some diseases cause damage to the cortex, while others affect the subcortical areas. Some of the major causes of dementia are head injuries, infection such as AIDS, inadequate blood or oxygen supply to the brain, pressure on the brain due to brain tumors, hydrocephalus (fluid accumulation between the brain and brain lining), vitamin deficiency and excessive alcohol intake for a long period.

Symptoms of Dementia

Dementia mainly affects the cognitive abilities of a person. Memory loss is one of the significant signs of dementia. In early dementia, a person may find a difficulty in finding the words. It can be compensated by using the synonyms. A person may forget the names, his work or appointments. It may be difficult for him to perform the familiar tasks such as cooking, driving or household chores. Some other symptoms of early dementia are mood swings, poor judgment, uncharacteristic behavior, confusion and behavior disorders such as paranoia and suspiciousness.

In intermediate dementia, symptoms are found to be worsening. A person is not able to carry out daily activities such as dressing, bathing, feeding, etc. Some other signs are disrupted sleep, increasing confusion, agitation, aggressiveness, hallucinations, poor concentration, poor judgment, abnormal moods such as depression and anxiety. There may be increased risk of falls and accidents because of confusion and poor judgment.

In case of severe dementia, the symptoms become the worst. The person becomes completely dependent on others for daily activities. Due to disability of other movements such as swallowing, there may be increased risk of choking, malnutrition and aspiration. There may be complete short-term or long-term memory loss. Some other complications of severe dementia are problems with bladder control, malnutrition, pressure sores, dehydration, seizures and injuries due to falls or accidents.

Diagnosis of Dementia

Early and accurate diagnosis of dementia is very essential to seek an adequate medical treatment. Patient’s history is very important for a correct diagnosis. Physical examination is done to identify the signs of stroke or other disorders that can cause dementia. It is also done to identify the signs of other diseases such as kidney failure or heart disease. Some other investigations done for the diagnosis are cognitive and neuropsychological tests such as Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), brain scan such as CT scan and MRI scan and electroencephalogram (EEG). Some laboratory investigations such as complete blood count, urinalysis, blood glucose test, cerebrospinal fluid analysis and toxicology screening are performed to diagnose dementia as well as to rule out other conditions that can contribute to dementia.

Treatment for Dementia

The treatment of dementia focuses on improving the symptoms and slowing the progression of the disease. It helps improve the quality of life of the patient. Many adults need ongoing medications for some chronic disorders such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart failure, diabetes and prostate enlargement. Certain medications such as cholinesterase inhibitors can be effectively used to slow the progression of dementia. As depression is common in people suffering from dementia, it can be treated using antidepressants. Therapies such as occupational therapy or physical therapy are found to be effective in treating the people with dementia. These therapies help improve mobility and activities of the patient.

In a nutshell, dementia is a very serious disorder of brain that can affect your entire lifestyle. However, you can prevent it by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, which includes having a balanced diet, doing regular exercises, by quitting smoking and overcoming alcoholism.
