I have been on several perscriptions and am now taking prevacid tablets twice daily for the past two years.

What Types Of Food Exactly, Can I Eat With Gerd Disease?

I have GERD but not as severe as yours. Since you did not say when the surgery is, I suggest you get the surgery asap. The lining of the esophagus can and probably is causing this stress on your eating habits. Also, since you mentioned you have been spitting blood, which may be blood mixed in with the stomach acid and shreds of your esophagus lining; also the vomiting, you need this surgery very soon. I’m an intern md and I highly suggest you get the surgery soon. If you wait any longer, worse things can/will happen. And, I am on Prevacid as well and know what you are going through. Remember that smoking, over eating, being fat, drinking too much alcohol all increases the risk or symptoms of GERD. Alcohol causes gerd. Obesity causes gerd. Need I say anything else? Please take my advice about GERD and I wish you well.

  1. Hi, I am wondering when your last check up was. Are you also taking an antibiotic and/or anything for what sounds like a raging ulcer? It would be in your best interest to go to the doctor for some testing to find out what is really going on. Gerd does not bring up blood frequently. It can cause bile, stomach acids to flow up towards the back of your throat. For it to have gotten to the burning/bleeding point, you should be seeking medical help as soon as possible as severe damage is resulting. Check any other medications you are taking. Some might be attributing to the problem.
    Some tips:
Sip as warm as you can water when you feel the burning and in between meals
small meals more often keep the stomach juices from backing up
steer clear of spicy foods, acidic foods (tomatoes, oranges, lemons etc) peanut butter, chocolate, coffee and soft drinks can also burn. Do not use real butter or margarine. Raw onions are a total no no. Even cooked ones might hurt. Try smart balance (not the light version in the small tubs but the regular version in the midsize tub. Or if you prefer, extra light virgin olive oil.
    try mild foods such as:
fish, chicken, cottage cheese, applesauce, steamed vegetables, soy milk, rice (not laden with fat as it will burn), breads, yogurts, graham crackers, breakfast cereals such as cheerios, potato and cheese perogies (not fried), mashed potatoes, oatmeal, you could try lean pork if you are a meat eater such as tenderloin, potato soup, chicken noodle soup, egg noodles, couscous, pita bread, chicken and dumplings (use light bisquick mix) try to make foods from scratch as processed foods have additives that hurt!
really anything that sounds bland and soft and comforting. Please visit your doctor or find one and go very soon. Blessings and I hope you feel better soon!

  2. First and foremost, diet is the most important in the management of these cases. It goes hand in hand with the medication.
Start with small frequent feedings. Dont over eat at once, it will make your stomach ache. Avoid softdrinks, coffee, sour and spicy foods. Avoid also alcohol and cigarette smoking. Milk can even aggravate the pain in some cases. Too much stress can add on. Medications like ordinary pain relievers might aggravate the pain. Better consult first your doctor before taking any medication.
Spitting up of blood and vomiting might mean something! There might be associated bleeding somewhere in your Gastrointestinal tract. Had endoscopy been done on you to visualize your intestines and your stomach? It will tell if you have gastritis ( inflammation over the stomach) or ulcers ( duodenal or gastric, that is the location of the ulcer).
Spitting of blood? Is it gastrointestinal or respiratory? a doctor have to be consulted immediately so that you will get rid of these problems.
For the right food, you can also consult the Nutritionist in the nearby hospital . Ask first for referral from the doctor. He will refer you and place his diagnosis in his referral.

  3. the NO list : no spices,chocolate,heavy meals,fatty meals,coffee,citrus.
don’t lay down within 2 hours after each meal .

  4. Hi there
Here are some remedies to help with your health.
Stomach disorders–There are different diseases caused by acidosis coming under this heading, but the direct cause is the same for almost all of them. Eating fast, improper chewing, overloading, and eating the wrong kinds of food, are generally responsible for the troubles. The bad habits must be abandoned in order to affect a cure, as there is no medicine that can chew the food properly, or stop anybody from overloading, or prevent one from eating things that are hard to digest.
Food that is not properly masticated is retained longer in the stomach than it should be. As a result, it turns sour and ferments, creating an excessive amount of acid and gas. This in turn causes a great deal of irritation and inflammation on the mucous lining of the whole digestive system or tract. A catarrhal condition gradually sets in, and the lining becomes coated with a thick slimy mucus that interferes with the assimilation of the food. Decomposition and decay result. Poisonous matter therefrom is absorbed, which leads to severe disturbances of the stomach and bowels and gradually the whole system. The result of this is far reaching, as it finally leads to many other diseases to which the human race is heir. It is only too true, that most people dig their own graves with their teeth.
Let me therefore repeat, what we might call the Golden Rule of Health: eat slowly, chew food well, and don’t overload. Eat only plain food, plenty of fresh vegetable matter, salads, ripe fruits. The richer foods, however, such as meat, eggs, starches, sweets, etc., should be taken more moderately and only in proportion to the amount of work one does. In that way the food can be balanced properly and digested more completely. Failure to live up to these simple natural rules will gradually lead to the operating table–but the operation will not remove the underlying cause, and consequently will not bring the desired relief.”
We have another author who is a wise old doctor of the past, who gives his view as follows (Jethro Kloss in Back to Eden, Beneficial Books, Box 404, New York 10016):
“Acidosis Causes–Meats, fish, fowl, tea, coffee, tobacco, alcohol, pepper (cooked), mustard, spices, vinegar, excessive uses of salt, baking powder, soda, jellies, sweet desserts (not the natural sweets), candy, preserves, pancakes, hot breads, pastries, fried foods, irregular eating, eating late at night, excess starch, improperly cooked foods, starchy and poorly baked bread, foods too hot or too cold, and foods cooked in aluminum utensils.”
    Herbal Aids:
1.Aids to soothe and speed up the healing are slippery elm gruel, marshmallow root tea, okra, carrot and spinach juice. Peppermint tea is an excellent beverage for this condition. To assist it in its stimulating effect, add six to ten drops of tincture of lobelia, or antispasmodic tincture to each cup of tea. The use of potassium broth is a great aid; spinach juice, mixed with carrot juice, is also excellent.
2.Use the instructions for Dr. Christopher’s Three-Day Cleansing Program and Mucusless Diet, If severe, follow instructions for the Incurables , Avoid Constipation.
The food should be eaten as dry as possible, mixing thoroughly with saliva to a liquid form, not drinking liquids with the meals. The drier the food is eaten, the sooner the acid condition can be overcome. Chew! Chew! Chew! so that your food is liquified before swallowing. Sodium and magnesium foods such as oranges (whole, not the juice), beets, carrots, celery, cucumbers, okra, radishes, apples, cherries, strawberries, coconuts, figs, prunes, string beans, spinach, should be eaten in abundance.
3.Parsley: This is good for acidosis.
4.Juices used for acidosis: Spinach, celery & spinach, celery & beet, carrot, tomato.
5.Green Bell-Shaped Pepper: It is especially good for liver disorders, obesity, constipation, high blood pressure and acidosis.
Diet: Avoid all commercially processed foods, spicy foods, sugars, refined carbohydrates, unhealthy fats, coffee and other caffeine products, chocolate, sodas, commercial non-herbal teas, alcohol, orange and grapefruit juice, tomato products, milk and dairy products, and foods containing peppermint and spearmint. Also have yourself screened for potential food allergies and sensitivities and avoid those foods for which you test positive.
Emphasize a diet rich in organic whole foods, especially organic fresh green vegetables and green vegetable drinks. Free-range organic meats and poultry, and wild-caught fish are also recommended. In addition, be sure to drink plenty of pure filtered water throughout the day.
Avoid overeating and eating meals late in the evening. As a general rule of thumb, in order to prevent and reverse heartburn symptoms, eat meals that are predominantly alkalizing in nature, especially green vegetables. (For more information about how to eat alkalizing foods, see pH.) Meals should ideally consist of generous portions of fresh leafy green salads, bare or lightly dressed, with an equally generous portion of lightly steamed vegetables and a fist sized portion of steamed, baked, broiled or carefully grilled protein. Organically produced foods, and carefully chosen oils, such as raw virgin coconut butter/oil, extra virgin olive oil and high lignan flax seed oil are your safest options. Avoid all fried foods, and all hydrogenated fats and oils. Choose raw, rather than roasted nuts and seeds, both in whole and butter form. Raw almond butter is a better option than peanut butter, and is a great snack when spread on apple slices.
Minimize your intake of both coffee and black tea, as well as alcoholic beverages. This is essential if heartburn is an issue.
Foods that can often quickly resolve heartburn problems are apples, raw cucumbers (peeled), brown rice, and walnuts. Sipping a glass of pure, filtered water with a couple of teaspoons of raw organic apple cider vinegar or baking soda (one teaspoon to eight ounces of water) can also quickly neutralize heartburn attacks.
    Best of health to you
    Cheers
